The Healy Family
Padraig Healy
I have been farming at Craffield all my life, representing the fourth generation of my family to do so. I combine my academic expertise as a UCD Agriculture alumni with deep-rooted practical experience. Extensive knowledge in livestock management and sustainable farming practices, helps when adapting to the evolving demands of modern agriculture. This lends itself well to my off farm management career with Gardiner Grain in Coolgreany, where I can support & advise other local farmers with their agricultural supply needs.
My wife, Martina takes an actve role in the farm, overseeing day to day tasks, eg herding, feeding & grass management. Her extensive management & organisational skills, honed over a 25 year career in the aviation sector, adapts well to the farm's day-to-day running, & is a vital contribution during the busy periods on the farm;
- Jan/Feb; incremental feeding prior to lambing.
- Mar/Apr; Assisting ewes at lambing & ensuring all newborn lambs get the best start.
- May/Jun/Jul/Aug: Flock & grass management.
Our daughters, Aibhín and Clodagh, are the fifth generation of the family to grow up on the farm. The name "Clobhín" — a unique blend of their names — symbolises the continuity of tradition and the future of farming at Craffield.
