Our Farm

Five Generations
Clobhín Organic Farm has been at the heart of the Healy family for generations. First purchased by Patrick Healy in 1901, the farm has been lovingly passed down through the years and is now proudly run by his great-grandson, Padraig Healy.
Today, Padraig works the land alongside his wife, Martina Diskin and their two young daughters, Aibhín and Clodagh—the fifth generation of Healys to grow up on the farm. Together, they continue the family tradition of sustainable, organic farming with care, dedication, and a deep respect for the land.
What we farm
At Clobhín Organic Farm, lambing takes place in mid-March, aligning with the natural growth of spring grass to support ewe lactation and lamb development. Our farm operates an outdoor-focused system where sheep remain outside nearly all year round, benefiting from Ireland's temperate climate and abundant pasture. This extensive management approach promotes animal welfare and reduces housing costs. Our flock primarily consists of Belclare and Suffolk Cross breeds — known respectively for their high prolificacy and strong maternal traits (Belclare), and fast growth and carcass quality (Suffolk). This combination supports both efficient lamb production and adaptability to outdoor conditions, making our system well-suited to organic or low-input farming models.

How we farm
We are certified by the Irish Organic Association (IOA), adhering to both EU regulations and additional national standards to ensure sustainable farming practices and high animal welfare.
To achieve IOA certification, we undertook a two-year conversion process. This involved submitting a detailed conversion plan outlining farm management practices, which is reviewed and followed by an initial inspection. Annual inspections ensure ongoing compliance with organic standards.
Key requirements for organic sheep farming include:
-
Animal Welfare: Sheep must have access to outdoor grazing and housing that provides at least 50% solid, bedded flooring.
-
Feeding: Livestock must be fed a diet consisting of organic feed, with synthetic additives prohibited.
-
Health Management: Our yearly Animal Health Plan is developed in conjunction with our veterinarian, & is required to minimise disease & reliance on veterinary treatments.
This prestegious certification signifies not only our adherence to, but also our commitment to rigorous organic standards. Our products now proudly display the IOA and EU organic logos.
